Jenni, Graham, and Hayden Rowe have raised nearly R55 000 for cleft surgery through KY-ND – an initiative they launched in memory of their son and brother, Ky, who tragically passed away on 9 August 2022.

For Ky, a smile was more than just an expression – it was his way of connecting with the world. He had a smile tattooed on his wrist as a daily reminder to seek joy, start conversations and bring light to others. His friends and family often speak of how his beautiful smile lifted those around him and left a lasting impression.

To honour that spirit, the Rowe family created KY-ND, a movement dedicated to supporting Operation Smile South Africa – a cause that reflects Ky’s belief in the power of a smile to transform lives.

“We hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” says Jenni. “Supporting Operation Smile is something that would have meant a lot to Ky – and it means so much to us.”

Fundraising for Operation Smile

Jenni set up a fundraising page for KY-ND on our website, using the family’s love of sport to inspire friends and colleagues to join the cause. On 9 August this year – Jenni’s 60th birthday and the 3rd anniversary of Ky’s passing – she chose to celebrate by asking for donations to Operation Smile instead of gifts, helping to give more children the chance to smile with confidence.

We thank the family for choosing to turn heartache into hope. Their story of courage and caring is such an inspiration to others.
