During our recent surgical programme at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, Dr Ncumisa Sabona was formally welcomed to the Operation Smile family.

She has been awarded a fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia, part of Operation Smile’s two year partnership with the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Global Surgery Unit, aimed at strengthening the surgical workforce and research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa with a particular focus on cleft lip and palate.

Ncumisa has been working in the Eastern Cape since 2015 and at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha since 2017. She comes highly recommended as someone who is passionate about paediatrics and committed to building services in Mthatha.

In January 2024, Ncumisa will start her clinical attachment at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
