15 years ago in Madagascar, volunteer paediatric anaesthesiologist, Clover-Ann Lee experienced her first surgical programme as an Operation Smile volunteer. She arrived carrying more than just medical equipment. She was navigating a difficult chapter in her own life …
Unlike flowers or chocolates, this gift will last long after Mother’s Day is over. It changes a child’s life forever. And gives another mom – one who can’t afford expensive surgery or private health care – hope of a better life for her child.
This year, no fewer than 35 Two Oceans Marathon runners chose to add to their achievement by raising funds for Operation Smile. Together, they raised an incredible R125 000 towards much needed cleft surgery.
